The Intelligence Report (NACAT) 2008
Business Shifts in the Global Catalytic
Process Industries
Crucial Information for Critical Times

TCGR’s "Intelligence Report: Business Shifts in the Global Catalytic Process Industries" goes beyond its important statistical benchmarking, to provide competitive insight and analysis throughout its vital endusers in refining, petrochemical/chemical, polymer, specialty/fine chemicals and environmental markets. This is what has made The Intelligence Report the industry "Gold Standard" for over twenty (20) years. The latest edition, which we are announcing now and are scheduled to complete next Spring, will be no exception!

Contributing to the value of the 2008 edition is the thorough update of The Intelligence Report database undertaken over the last year by The Catalyst Group Resources in the areas of catalyst pricing, capacity utilization and productivity. This is a comprehensive and important update, providing a critical new tool for catalyst companies, process technology licensors and refining/petrochemical companies.

To add additional value/perspective(s) in the 2008 edition, our Special Feature content will address “frontiers” in syngas conversion to fuels and chemicals.  It will go beyond standard technology descriptions available elsewhere to address “step-change” or transformational applications of syngas in three areas:  (1) hydroformylation (e.g., to alcohols, aldehydes, etc.), where new applications are emerging; (2) in methanol-to-olefins (MTO), where the route has been uneconomic, but technology gains coupled with feedstock from Mega-Methanol plants, may result in competitive olefins for chemicals and fuels (e.g., conversion to diesel or gasoline); and (3) in dimethyl ether (DME) vs. methanol, where a comparison in production as well as shipping and end-use application, may lead to rapid DME expansion (even beyond the PRC route from coal).  As usual we will provide insights that are unique and valuable enough to constitute, in effect, a report within a report.

The Intelligence Report will address key topics such as:

  • The refining industry has undergone fundamental shifts and changes over the last two years and will continue into the future in alternative fuels and feedstocks.

  • Moreover, the catalyst markets, particularly FCC, HDS and HC, have undergone dramatic price increases in addition to volume growth.

  • There are also shifts occurring in petrochemical/chemical feedstocks due to the higher cost of petroleum toward coal, heavy oil, petcoke, biomass etc., via gasification to syngas and chemicals.

  • The Russian Federation oil and gas downstream industries have increased importance in power through both grassroots investments and foreign acquisitions. The Middle East continues its massive downstream value added investments within The Kingdom and throughout the Middle East.  Where will all this product go? Who will transport it all, given the drive of PRC to be self sufficient?

  • Last but not least is the pending chemical recession as we plow towards overcapacity once again, evident particularly in commodity chemicals and polyolefins.

Understanding these value and strategic shifts makes The Intelligence Report more important than ever for both catalyst companies and refiners.

As “The Intelligence Report” has done in the past, it will provide new business and technology perspectives, including:

  • Comprehensive, concise and more detailed than ever industry statistics on catalyst volumes and values including forecasts

  • Producer-and user-specific developments in production and technology, including alliances, ventures and acquisitions/divestitures

  • Identification of new growth opportunities across the value chain (raw materials, licensing, logistics, technology, etc.)

  • Assessment of geographical, technological and competitive gaps

  • Analysis and recommendations leading to specific actionable items

Rapid change requires a significant rethink on business strategies to be successful. Let us help you to capture the advantage!
