The Annual Oil Sands and Heavy Oil Program (OSHOP)

In January 2008, TCGR published its multi-client study entitled “A Strategic Assessment of Commercial and Technical Progress in International Oil Sands and Heavy Oil Upgrading”.  This significant analysis involving several key industry consultants including Len Flint (Ph. D, P. Eng), Don Murray (P. Eng), James Speight (Ph. D) and others, was the first document to provide an independent review of the facts, issues and concerns from an industrial perspective, as well as the socioeconomic and political climate(s), in this area of increasing strategic importance to the petroleum and energy industries globally.

In follow-up to TCGR’s 2008 study, we interviewed producers, refiners and service providers about their current perspectives and needs for ongoing information.  As a result, TCGR is proposing an “Annual Oil Sands and Heavy Oil Program (OSHOP).”  This annual program is devoted to providing executives with the local field intelligence, analyses and reviews, rumors/speculation, key local press, announcements by international/global participants (IOC’s and NOC’s), political economic news going-on a daily/weekly basis, condensed to capture the relevant/important content that oil patch executives would want to have on their radar screen for informed decision making, i.e., commercial changes, sponsored R&D progress, key project approvals and delays, internal and external influence factors, etc.

The OSHOP Program will provide the following services:

  • A full year’s subscription to The OSHOP Newsletter: this monthly monitoring service, delivered as a 16-24 page newsletter in electronic format (as a PDF file), will focus on reporting up-to-date technical, commercial, and application information in heavy oil commercial development.  Content for the monthly reporting service will be company announcements (both commercial and technical), patent reviews, exclusive interviews, company profiles, and conference/literature reviews.  Feedback direct from the commercial practitioners of the technology as well as local Canadian and other regional consultant views will also be presented, as will  detailed “Special Feature” articles discussing evolving technologies and general trends in the development of heavy oil production and upgrading techniques and their potential commercial exploitation.  These monthly confidential newsletters, dedicated exclusively to this program and its membership, will serve as an unparalleled competitive intelligence tool, as well as a comprehensive reference source in heavy oil technologies for developing, upgrading and converting bitumen to fuels and chemicals.

  • Two benchmark reports annually: these reports, of 50-75 pages each, will provide comprehensive summaries and analyses of new developments in the technical and commercial areas of heavy oil development and upgrading, as well as provide interpretation of these developments and their impacts on the industry.  Discussion content will include analysis of key new patents, joint venture developments, commercial advances and announcements, technology progress, processing, breakthroughs and interviews with key developers and end-users, along with TCGR’s analysis.

  • A “breaking news” email service:  this monitoring service will provide immediate relay of critically important news releases-as they happen.

In addition, through arrangements which can be made separately from program deliverables, top flight consultation, on an as-needed basis, will be available.  Assistance from experts in heavy oil technology, with a wealth of industry experience in development of new and useful catalytic science and applied technology, as well as experts in areas of market and product development, will serve as a resource.  These same experts will contribute regularly to program deliverables, so their insights and perspectives are relayed on an ongoing/proactive basis.

This program will be a truly unique and timely service providing you information that is entirely new and non-repetitive with other TCG multi-client reports or services, focusing on critical developments as they occur.  Services and compiled information provided by the program are such that they cannot be obtained through regular trade magazines or the open literature in such a competitive yet concise and cost-effective manner.
