Specialty Zeolites in Catalysis 1992-2001

The Catalyst Group (TCG) has been tracking the use of zeolites in catalysis for two decades. Our last multi-client report "Specialty Zeolites in Catalysis 1992-1996: International, Commercial and Technical Progress" published in 1992, provided analysis and assessment of 25 known commercialized processes in existence since 1986, 17 newly commercialized processes between 1987-1992 and 30 new developing processes that showed potential for commercialization 1992-2000.

Now that almost ten (10) years have passed and based on a recent industry survey, it is interesting to note that the use of zeolites in catalysis is just as powerful as ever. In 1999, a survey by Holderich and Tanabe showed that 41% of all acid/base catalyzed processes were zeolite based, see Table 1 & 2 below.

As part of its methodology, TCG has reassembled its high-caliber team of zeolite technical consultants that contributed to both market information and technical forecasting for new applications in the past. Consultants who will assist The Catalyst Group in this report are: Dr. Wolfgang Holderich, University of Aachen (RWTH), formerly of BASF, Dr. Sigmund Csicsery, formerly of Chevron Research, and Dr. Art Chester, formerly of ExxonMobil. Numerous other inputs will also be received by interview or scientific papers (or both) from zeolite research programs worldwide.

In TCG's new study "Specialty Zeolites in Catalysis 1992-2001," we will revisit and benchmark progress in existing processes and identify new applications. Our 2001 report (an update of our 1992 study) will provide clients with an authoritative status report, analyzing the significant competitive, consolidation and new application expansions that have accrued during the last decade.
