Methanol and Ammonia Catalysis: Technical Advances and Impacts on the Future Competitive Landscape

The drive toward the “Hydrogen Economy” and the “Methanol Economy” simultaneously will continue to ensure that growth for both of these commodities will outpace GDP to 2030 and beyond. For methanol, this is due to its versatility, including as a feedstock to olefins, e.g., MTO, MTP, gasoline additive, etc. as well as a strong CO2 sink and liquid hydrogen carrier (LOHC). Industrial investments in these leading market applications are already being committed by Air Products, Siemens, Alfa Laval, Haldor Topose, to name a few.

Licensors and consumers such as Johnson Matthey, HTAS, Air Liquide/Lurgi, MGC, Toyo, Casale and Thyssenkrupp/Uhde have major stakes in ensuring they remain well informed of this transition, as well as major users including Celanese, Ineos, Momentive, Skyford, SABIC and BASF.

For ammonia, the drive to replace the Haber-Bosch process, including routes for direct N2 + H2O, is receiving heightened attention by the majors, with an emphasis on reduced CO2 /GHG footprints. Companies like Clariant, Casale, HTAS and others appreciate that the competitive landscape is changing and the role of catalysis cannot be overstated.

Through this study, The Catalyst Group Resources will provide a clearer picture of the market (including competitor market shares), the leading technologies, and the strategic implications imposed by the developing macro-economic situation. This will be completed using patent and technical benchmarking on R&D, commercial progress to 2030, with expert analyses and the most successful directions using representative technology roadmaps. Remaining hurdles will be explained.

This Select-Client study, Methanol and Ammonia Catalysis: Technical Advances and Impacts on the Future Competitive Landscape, will provide subscribers with:

  • Market size and growth among the various market segments
  • Market share analysis of the leading catalyst providers
  • Technical analysis of the latest catalyst and process technology developments
  • Regional analyses of the markets and competitive landscape

With nearly 40 years covering the catalyst and process technology industries, and with its extensive Dialog Group® network of experts, TCGR is uniquely capable of providing an insightful and comprehensive assessment to address technical, market, and strategic stakeholders.

This proposed Select-Client Study, for the industry, by the industry, is scheduled for completion 10-12 weeks following its launch (i.e., November/December 2020).

As it does in each of its industrially-focused select-client studies, TCGR will seek input from “charter” subscribers (i.e., those who sign up prior to
study launch) to help shape the report’s final scope/TofC by delineating areas of importance), as depicted in the preliminary Table of Contents.
