The Intelligence Report: Business Shifts in the Global Catalytic Process Industries, 2017-2023

… Leading-edge Analyses and Guidance for Opportunity Identification and Strategic Investment…

The Catalyst Group Resources (TCGR) is pleased to announce the completion of the 17th Biennial Edition of The Intelligence Report: Business Shifts in the Global Catalytic Process Industries, 2017-2023. TCGR’s report provides competitive insight and analysis vital to catalyst manufacturers, process licensors, and end-users across the value chain: refining, petrochemical/chemical, polymer, specialty/fine chemical and environmental markets.

A brief study synopsis indicates that, as it has in the past, environmental catalysts for emissions reduction/conversion will lead growth over the next five (5) years at 4.8% p.a., but catalysts for petrochemicals will grow equally quickly.  Polymerization catalysts will grow at 4.1% p.a., with refining catalysts (dominated by transport fuels) growing at 3.7% p.a. due to efficiency gains and encroachment via EVs. The global merchant catalyst market is forecast to grow from $31.3 BIL/yr in 2017 to reach $39.5 BIL/yr by 2023. If you were to include licensing and other direct services, the current market exceeds $40 BIL/yr.

Global Catalyst Market Value, 2017-2023 (% of Total)

Among the most significant events noted for the industry over the forecast period to 2023 are:

  • The refining industry’s growth is being limited by environmental regulations and reduced transport fuels demand, some of which are being replaced by the encroachment of EVs. The use of less expensive (and more readily available) feedstocks, producing fuels with zero sulfur and other mandated changes, means the industry’s opportunity is to pursue margins through new/cleaner products and via price increases.
  • The prospects for the petrochemical/chemical industries are more encouraging than in the recent past, as producers seek to add value to their refining or feedstock situations by serving markets growing more rapidly than fuels. Significant innovations are changing the competitive landscape, allowing higher premiums for upgraded products derived from more readily available resources.
  • The thermoplastics industries continue to undergo consolidation in catalyst and process licensing, resulting in premium grades yielding enhanced margins in selected PE (and PP) applications. Other resins, like PET and ETPs, continue to be the fastest growing plastics, with PVC and the styrenics (PS/ABS) paralleling GDP.
  • Environmental catalysts continue to deploy newer combination of systems and catalysts to meet ever more stringent mandates, spreading globally. New GHG/CO2 regulations are driving innovations for reduced NOx/SOx, improved energy efficiency, and new products derived from CO2

As The Intelligence Report has done in the past (and the “Exec Deck” slides do in coordination), the deliverables provide new business and technology perspectives, including:

  • Comprehensive, concise and detailed industry statistics on catalyst volumes and values, including forecasts
  • Producer- and user-specific developments in production and technology, including alliances, ventures and acquisitions/divestitures
  • Identification of new growth opportunities across the value chain (raw materials, licensing, services, technology, etc.)
  • Assessment of geographical, technological and competitive gaps
  • Analysis and recommendations leading to specific actionable items

In order to add value/perspective(s) beyond industry statistics and commentary, the 2018 edition includes a Special Feature section (Section VII) addressing the increasingly important contributions of global “Catalyst Centers of Excellence” to catalyst R&D/science.  TCGR provides a global assessment, delineating areas of expertise, their renowned experts, and affiliations with (or support from) industrial partners.  Such a reference document proves a valuable resource for identifying opportunities for expanded capabilities in catalysis as well as potential venues for affiliation/partnership.

Back by popular demand, TCGR is including an optional “Exec Deck” slide deck companion deliverable to complement the report contents and highlight the key findings.  The PPT slides provides additional subscriber-specific value such as:

  • Executive-level coverage of critical statistical data, technical advances, market and competitive/strategic insights
  • Actionable study recommendation and findings
  • For presentation (via webinar or on-site) by TCGR’s team of experts or to generate internal documents for planning and/or strategy
  • Subscriber-specific Q&A, yielding additional value-added insights/analyses

Full of opportunities and profit generating technologies as newly important directions and pursuits, TCGR’s 17th biennial edition of The Intelligence Report serves clients within, but also beyond the traditional refining, petrochemical/chemicals, plastics, specialty chemicals, and environmental segments, to include alternative energy/feedstocks across applications – from fuels to energy storage and CO2/GHG mitigation.  Participants will recognize TCGR’s biennial edition as a unique source of vision and clarity beyond the macro-views that limit other sources.

Based on TCGR’s unparalleled industry knowledge spanning more than 35 years, we are uniquely qualified to document these advancements and assess their impacts on behalf of our clients – subscribe today!
